The newsroom
Baltimore is missing

El Tiempo Latino has served Latino Washington for 35 years. We are bringing the same newsroom to Baltimore, and we are looking for a small group of partners to build it with us. Partners can start with the launch in 2026, or start in 2027.

Part One

Baltimore

The market, the gap, and what El Tiempo Latino is building there.

01Why Baltimore

Baltimore has a Latino community growing faster than any other group in the city, and no daily newsroom serving it in Spanish. Baltimore City's Latino population grew 77% between 2010 and 2020, and by 2024 it accounted for nearly all of the city's net population growth. The growth crosses the county line: Dundalk went from 1.45% Latino in 2000 to 14.23% in 2020.

Daily Spanish-language newsrooms in Baltimore covering this community

Spanish-language media exists in Baltimore, and none of it is a daily newsroom: a monthly print paper out of Highlandtown, a second outlet running a paper and a radio show, and a Spanish-language station licensed in 2025. The Baltimore Banner, the city's leading digital newsroom, has no Spanish-language product at all. Univision and Telemundo cover the city from Washington.

We are already in Maryland. We are completing it.

El Tiempo Latino has a large, established audience across Maryland today, concentrated in the south of the state: Montgomery County, Prince George's, the Washington suburbs. Baltimore is the north of the same state, and we already reach readers there without a newsroom on the ground. We will lean on that audience while we build local reporting in the north.

02What We Are Building

A digital-first newsroom, launching with the formats and editorial standards that already work in our other markets.

The products

What we are putting behind it

This is a staffed newsroom: reporting produced in Maryland by people who live in Baltimore, video made in the city, and a sustained publishing cadence from launch. The team spends its first stretch listening, sitting with neighborhood organizations, business owners, churches and institutions, so the coverage is grounded in the city. The build keeps evolving through the first year as we learn the market.

Who is backing this

El Tiempo Latino was selected for the Google News Initiative Growth Catalyst program, in the top 7% of 162 applicants, with funding directed at this Baltimore expansion. We are being coached through the build by Blue Engine Collaborative. That support covers the newsroom. Partners are what make the outlet part of Baltimore's commercial and civic life.

The Founding Partners Program

What a partner receives, where it runs, what it costs, and by when.

03Why Partner With This

El Tiempo Latino plays two roles at once, and they hold each other up. The first is journalism: covering the community, reporting what happens to it, and holding the institutions that affect it to account. The second follows from the first, which is that a newsroom people actually trust becomes a bridge between government, business and that community, translating what a new transit line means for a commuter, what a health enrollment window means for a family, what a financial decision looks like for a small business owner.

The Baltimore metro area has more than 235,000 Latino residents and no daily newsroom in Spanish, which means no bridge. A founding partner pays for that bridge to exist, reaches the community across the whole first year of it, and is one of the few names visible there before there was an audience to point at.

04What Founding Partners Get

05Distribution and Delivery

Where it runs

Every asset runs on three surfaces at once while the Baltimore channels build: the new Baltimore products described above, El Tiempo Latino's established Maryland audience, which the brand has held for 35 years, and paid Meta distribution across the Baltimore metro area, weighted toward the neighborhoods where the community is concentrated.

How we test and report

Each wave launches with variants, testing which topics and framings hold attention in this specific market. Spend concentrates on what performs. Reporting is monthly, with a final report reconciling delivery against the guarantee.

06The Tiers

Three levels, each priced below the rate card value of the same package, with the discount deepening as the commitment grows. A custom package can be built around a different priority or a different weight across formats, confirmed in writing before booking.

A wave is the unit of production: one video reel and one social carousel built around a single topic, published across the channels below and carried by paid distribution. It is the same unit El Tiempo Latino produces for its DMV partners today.

Why these numbers hold from month one

The guarantees above do not depend on how fast the new Baltimore channels grow. Most of the delivery is paid distribution across the Baltimore metro area, which reaches Latino households whether or not they follow the new accounts yet, and it is aimed using the first-party data El Tiempo Latino and Tiempo News already hold on Latino audiences around Baltimore. That is what makes the targeting accurate on day one. El Tiempo Latino's established Maryland audience carries the rest, and organic delivery from the Baltimore channels compounds on top of that floor as they build through the year.

07Timeline and Deadlines

WhenWhat happens
November 30, 2026Founding partner window closes. After this date the tiers above no longer exist and the Baltimore offer moves to the standard rate card in our media kit.
Q4 2026Programs starting in 2026 go live with the launch and are invoiced in 2026. Partners confirmed before the launch announcement are named inside it.
December 2026Onboarding, content planning and the wave calendar agreed for programs starting in 2027.
Q1 2027Programs starting in 2027 go live and are invoiced against the 2027 budget.
Q4 2027Final report and the Baltimore market intelligence readout.
Commitment and budget are separate

Signature in 2026 is what secures the founding position and the launch recognition. Which budget year carries the cost is a separate decision: a program starting in 2026 is invoiced in 2026 and runs fifteen months, and a program starting in 2027 is invoiced against the 2027 budget being planned right now. Partners who need to split the two can be invoiced for the launch block in 2026 and the balance at program start in 2027.

08What We Are Bringing From Washington

Three campaigns run for Maryland clients on the same ecosystem, the same formats and the same team that will produce Baltimore.

The Route Nobody Knew They Needed

Montgomery County DOT · El Tiempo Latino · Montgomery County

A new bus rapid transit line is easy to tune out when nothing explains what changes for you. We built clarity-first creative that answered two questions fast, what is different and what to do next, and ran it on Instagram with print reinforcement until it converted into action. Baltimore starts from the same place: an audience that has not heard of the thing yet.

Care That Speaks The Language

Coaching Salud Holística · El Tiempo Latino · Maryland

Maryland Latino families navigating Medicaid and maternal support disengage when the messaging adds confusion instead of clarity. We led with what this means and what to do next, then repeated it across social, editorial and print until it was familiar. The households this reached are the same ones a Baltimore program reaches.

Freedom to Learn

Education advertising blurs together when everything promises opportunity. We built one promise and a repeatable visual system, then ran it across editorial and social long enough for the audience to see it more than once. Sustained presence is what moved it.
